i bite my lip as i try to remember.
during fathers' day. that was Sunday. i've just realised i left out a LARGE chunk of what i wanted to blog about in that post.
during fathers' day. we had dinner REALLY EARLY. in this boat! ship. whatever. its stewords. or stewards. which ever you want to call it. its some tex-mex place. and the food there is MARVELOUS, and i think i put back on that 1kg i lost over running around during band. but thats beside the point.
while we were waiting for the food [which, by the way, was VERY short], and while eating the chips with yummy salsa dip, mum asked each of us to tell papa something nice that he did that we remember. at that moment, i only recalled the way... at that staff retreat years ago... all the staff's kids were called up to the stage, and family by family, we'd walk up to the microphone and say something we want to say about our father. i guess it was some in conjunction with fathers day kind of thing... and everyone went on and on about how their father was the most handsome, or the most hardworking, or something of that sort, and my younger sister, being the youngest at the time, AND the most chattery of all of us, walked up to that microphone and said 'my father has an oily face.' everyone burst into laughter, and amazingly, my father didn't run off and hide, but took it as a passing comment. in fact, he was proud of it! he'd be so optimistic, and go 'everyone walked up to the microphone and said their father was handsome, so they can go fight for the most handsome position, but when Joyce said my face was oily, oh, i got it. no one can EVER fight with me for that position!' and he'd be smiling and everything.
and now i'll share the little details everyone else said on the boat, over chips and everything.
daniel, 5. 'i love papa cause he's my papa!'
joycelyn, 10. 'i remember the way he'd come home late... and he'd have those chairs... the short one and the tall one... [and here, everyone bursts into laughter cause EVERYONE remembers it...] and then he'd cook instant noodles, and bring THE WHOLE POT out to the living room, switch on the tv, and then put the pot of noodles on the tall chair and sit on the shorter chair, and eat, with chopsticks and all. and then we'd all sneak out of the bedroom, after pretending to sleep so mummy doesn't catch us. and then we'd run out and eat with him... and after a while, mummy will come out and 'scold' papa for letting us eat at 'that time of the night' hahah. and then she'd send us to brush our teeth and go to sleep.'
and this incident, would probably be the one that sticks in my head the most. cause it was the most close we could get to papa at that time.
davy, 12. 'i remember how papa liked to fix things. like model airplanes and ships and stuff. and he'd help me when i didn't know what to do, but he gave me chances to experiment too!' and then i think he got interrupted.
and then i remembered more recent stuff. like... how he'd buy stuff from IKEA and assemble it himself at home, and he'd give us little DnT chances. hahah. and that sorta helped, cause i didn't EVER take DnT. hahah. and just today, i fixed up a WHOLE CUPBOARD MYSELF! -feels accomplished-
jayne, 17. she had earlier responded to mum's request in the form of 'HUH?! YOU MEAN LIKE A EUROLOGY?' hahah. that was comic. but mum went 'yeah, like a eurology, only papa's alive to hear it.' hahah... at that moment, i was thinking. maybe souls do get to hear the eurologies when they're in heaven. anyway. to what she said. 'i remember how papa would know EVERYTHING, about ANYTHING. like when you see a ship [then she looks out of the boat window thing for A SHIP.] and then he'd be able to tell how many engines the ship has by the number of chimney-like-things that they have. and all kinds of things like that' and then when she did find the ship she was looking for she went 'oh, like THAT boat. you see. that one has ONE chimney, so that means it has ONE main engine!' and then my father went to correct her. 'no. that one has two. cause the chimney is like...' and then she interrupted back 'SEE SEE SEE! I TOLD YOU HE KNOWS EVERYTHING!' hahah. it was so COMIC!
and i guess my father really does know alot. maybe from his life experiences... he's been all over the world! i used to travel with him... back when i was less than a year old... i'd been to the grand canyon.! and the great wall. and i don't even remember a thing about it... i guess i'll go again one day.
and then we went ahead to eat... and we didn't hear what mum had to say! ohdear. maybe i'll ask her, sometime...
